Required Courses for International Relations Majors
(Those admitted before 2007)

International Relations Majors should take 39 major credits, and the courses they need to take are International Relations Theory, Korean Peninsula and International Politics, Introduction to International Relations History, Korean Diplomatic History, International Political Theory, International Political Economy (International Political Economy: 2004 and 2005 admits), International Political Practice (Introduced in International Relations Major) and Political Science Theory, and Comparative Politics (Introduced in Political Science).

(Those admitted between 2008 - 2009)

ⓛ In the case that the International Relations Major are also pursuing other Majors, they need to take 39 credits worth of courses including International Relations Theory, Korean Peninsula and International Politics (Korean Peninsula and International Politics: required for 2008 admits, elective for 2009 admits), Introduction to International Relations History, Korean Diplomatic History, International Political Theory, International Political Economy, International Political Practice (Introduced in International Relations Major) and Political Science Theory, and Comparative Politics (Introduced in Political Science).

② In the case of Single Major (Concentration), International Relations Majors should take 39 credits out of 60 in the same way as previous admits, and 12 credits out of 21 in major courses opened by the International Relations Major. However, up to 9 credits of other departments’ courses approved by IR are allowed. (For instance, 60 credits = 39 credits + 21 credits (required: 12 credits from IR department).

③ Approved courses from other Departments: International Relations Major, Political Science Major, National History Major, Western History Major, Oriental History Major

ⓛ When pursuing another major concurrently, they should complete 39 credits, and the requirements are as follows. Including Political Science Theory and International Political Theory, they should take more than 3 subjects each from A, B classifications, and in the case of classification C, they should take more than 3 subjects from IR major.
※ Requirements for Different Areas (Please note Course Classification Sheet)
     A: Philosophy, History, Basics (more than 3 subjects)
     B: Politics and Foreign Policies of various countries, Regional studies (more than 3 subjects)
     C: Subdivisions (IR courses, more than 3 subjects)
※ International Relations Major (39 credits) = Required (International Political Theory, Political Science Theory, International Political Practice) + A (3 subjects) + B (3 subjects) + C (3 IR courses) + Political Science and International Studies course (1 subject)

※ Approved courses from other departments can be selected as major elective courses but will not be included in the classification sheet (will not be included in the 39 credits for major courses).

② In the case of single majors, 39 credits out of 60 should be completed like those admitted after 2010 as described in ⓛ, and the remaining 21 credits can be completed without classification restrictions as long as they were opened by the Department of Political Science and International Relations. However, the remaining 21 credits can include the elective courses by other Majors that have been approved by IR major.

※ Approved courses from other departments are recognized, only after 39 credits of the required 60 credits are completed as stated in ⓛ, as electives as part of the remaining 21 credits.

③ Approved Courses from other Departments: (from Law Department) Constitutional Law 1, Constitutional Law 2, Administrative Law 1, Administrative Law 2, Law and Politics, International Law 1, International Law 2, (from Economics Department) International Economics, International Trade, International Finance

※ Approved courses from other departments are recognized only when the students have already completed 39 credits or more from the Department of Political Science and International Relations (Political Science Major, International Relations Major). However, they are not included in the classification sheet.

Notes for International Relations Major Graduation

Graduation assessment and Graduation registration: those who wish to graduate in August should apply for graduation mid-February – mid-March, while those who wish to graduate in February should apply mid-August – mid-September to the International Relations Office. (Before applying for graduation, please refer to the announcement on the website before visiting the IR office.)

Requirements for Undergraduate Graduation: To be eligible for graduation, the students should have attended more than 6 semesters, obtained more than 130 credits, more than 39 credits of the liberal arts, more than 39 credits of major courses (after 2008 admits, second major compulsory), maintained an overall GPA of 2.0 or above and a major GPA of 2.0 or above.

International Politics Practice is a graduating thesis course that is opened in the first semester every year. An academic announcement is made the October of the previous year to recruit students for the course. Those who wish to take the course need to draft a thesis plan and submit it to the administrative office within the designated deadline. (However, international students and students returning from military service are eligible for additional application around February).

International Relations Double Major Requirements

Those admitted before 2009 are required to complete 39 IR credits, the same as exisiting International Relations Majors. (Refer to Graduation Requirements). However, courses from other Departments that have been approved by IR will be recognized up to a maximum of 9 credits.

Those admitted after 2010 should complete 39 credits like the current students. (Please note the different requirements depending on admit date).

International Relations Minor Requirements

2007 admits (or those admitted before 2007): 202.206(Diplomatic Theory), 202.209(Korean Diplomatic History), 202.211(Introduction to International Relations History), 202.221(International Political Thought), 202.302(International Political Theory), 202.318A(International Political Economy), 202.326(International Organization), 202.401(Comparative Politics). Four of the aforementioned courses should have been taken for a grade, and 21 credits or more of International Relations courses should have been completed.

2008~2009 admits: 200.104(International Political Theory), 202.209(Korean Diplomatic History), 202.211(Introduction to International Relations History), 202.302(International Political Theory), 202.318A(International Political Economy). Four of the aforementioned courses should have been taken for a grade, and 21 credits or more of International Relations courses should have been completed.

2010 admits (or those admitted after 2010): Two major prerequisite courses (Political Science Theory and International Political Theory) and other International Relations courses should comprise 21 credits or more.

In the case of International Relations Majors completing Minors or Double Majors in other institutions, the graduation requirements for Minors and Double Majors should be discussed with the Department Office (Major/Minor) in question, and should receive a graduation assessment from the university in question too in their expected graduating semester.

In the case of students from other institutions completing their Minor or Double Major in SNU International Relations Major, they should receive a graduation assessment and course correction by SNU International Relations Major Office in their expected graduating semester.
